Add a grace period of 5-10 seconds. If two devices report positions within that window, take the furthest timestamp. This prevents the “flicker” effect where rapid device switching causes position to jump backward.

Battery-constrained devices like mobile need different sync strategies. Don’t send playback events every second—batch them every 10-30 seconds, or trigger on significant events (pause, seek, completion). Balance data freshness against battery drain.
